can some one put me right on this is it right that on early census ages for children were roundered up

Audrey I think that is was those over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 years

yes thanks I thought I had read that some where about 1841 census just couldn't remember if it was up or down

And just to confuse us some enumerators put exact age instead of rounding down

4 generations 1943

It was adults ages which were rounded down, the children up to the age of 15 should have the correct age on.

I think maybe the correct approach to the ages shown on the 1841 census could be described as flexible and cautious!

I have somone would have been 20 and 6months 1841 Census gives as 15. No wonder I rejected at first HOwever he was just a couple of houses from future wife's family's house (though she was away)
