i would like to find Joseph Jutsum Downes ,possibly in the 1871/81or 91 census. he is a contacts gggrandfather if this helps, but they don't know his age, sorry.
he lived with Mary Ann Jones at
Sixpenny,Handley .
Dorset.
Mary Jones who was born in islington .London was the daughter of Mary and William Jones.

It wasn't at all clear that Joseph married Mary Ann (who therefore changed her name). Nevertheless, here is Joseph through the censuses:

1. I have left out some details (eg birthplace) when they repeat what it says elsewhere
2. I have altered the place names to what they are rather than how they were indexed
3. 'niece' often means granddaughter. I found Matilda, aged 14, on the 1861 census, living with Samuel, 43, farmer of 68 acres, employing 4 men + 2 boys, b Handley, Dorset; Mary Jane, 34; John, 20; Anna, 15. Samuel is another of John's sons I would assume.
4. The IGI gives only Anna, b 1844, dau John and Susan Downe.
5. There is clearly a lot more that could be done on this family, but I leave that to you!
