JAMES CULLY born 1866
« on: Tuesday 07 March 06 16:28 UTC (UK) »

I am searching for JAMES CULLY who married my grandmother in Lurgan in 1886.  He gave his father's name as James also and the only birth I can find is in Navan, Meath.  Has anyone any information on the CULLY family in Navan?

Hiya RosemaryJoan,

The Cully family from Navan are only a possiblity. I feel maybe an outside chance. Your grandparents married in 1886 which means they were probably born in the late 1850s or early 1860s. The father of James would have been born around the mid to late 1830s or early 1840s. Compulsory registration in Ireland did not commence until 1864 so you need to consider the fact that many people did not bother registering information prior to that date. There were five Cully families in Co. Meath at the time of Griffith's Valuation of Ireland 1848-64 and many more in Co. Armagh.

All the Best, Christopher

Hi Chris,  In the meantime, I think I have found James's birth in Tannaghmore (Tandragee Dist.).  He was actually Robert James I think.  This is a name which has gone down three generations since, so I am pretty sure it is him.  I also found a sibling.  Thanks for your interest.  Rosemary

That's more like it Rosemary,

Tannaghmore is much closer to Lurgan than Navan.
