Looking for Missing GrandPa!

Hello Everyone,

I Need HELP!!!

Going by the 1881 census RG11 2698 / 90 for Newcastle Under Lyme Staffordshire, my husbands Grandfather "Robert George Hargreaves" was born in Shorncliffe, Kent in 1872.

His parents were Charles and Mary Jane (Deverell) Hargreaves.

His father Charles Hargreaves was in the military and was at The South Front Barracks Western Heights in Dover, Hougham, Kent when the 1871 census was taken.

I would really love it if someone could please find him for me.
One of the other Roots Chat Seniors also sugested looking  at Folkstone as well as Shorncliffe in Kent.

I look forward to any replies

I think you should look again at the GRO Indexes, using more variants of the surname.

You should also cite the 1881 as there are older children which would appear on the 1871.

I recall that you already have the 1871 census so assume that you are looking for his birth certificate.

You could try contacting the local registry office (just in case it has not been included in the national index or been misindexed) http://services.kent.gov.uk/Community/births-marriages-and-deaths/our-services/local-offices/ashford.htm (for births at Shorncliffe, Cheriton, Kent)

Also, I wonder if you have checked any of the army birth indexes online but pay per view http://www.1837online.com in the overseas section - might be appropriate seeing that his father was an army man Huh

I did find a entry for Hargreaves in Kent for 1871 birth which I believe is Robert George Hargreave but as yet I haven't brought a copy.
