Thomas Moor b.about 1815 in Gainsborough
« on: Monday 06 March 06 14:43 GMT (UK) »

My great-great-great-grandparents Thomas Moor and Sarah Wilson married in Gainsborough in 1837, therefore they would both have been born about 1815, probably in also Gainsborough. Can some kind person look up their births?

Thank you very much in advance,
Simon Rollitt

This could be them on the 1851 census

2120/231

Thomas MOORE 38 Malster's Lab, Notts
Sarah 34
Robert 13 AgLab
John 12 Scholar, Notts Gringley
Sarah Ann 10 Scholar
Elizabeth 8 Scholar
George 6 Scholar
Thomas 3
William 1
Others born Morton

The baptisms may possibly be found at www.familysearch.org - but the site doesn't seem to be working properley today.  Sad

Wonderful Geoff. I'll check these out - but it seems probable since successive Moore families lived in Morton in Gainsborough.

Great news - thanks very much.

It's definately the correct family - my great-great-grandfather Thomas was born in 1848 and his brother George fits too. So his father Thomas was born about 1813 in Nottinghamshire - probably Gringley, and his wife Sarah (Wilson) in about 1817 in Morton. I don't suppose you have access to any other censuses for Morton that show the family too?

Thanks for your help,

1841 has a peculiarity

634-5/9
Morton
Thomas MOORE 25 AgLab
Sarah 25
Both born Lincs

No kids!

Looking through further, I find

634-5/13
Morton
Robt MOORE 3
John 2
Sarah 1
All born Lincs

In the margin is written a note- "These three belong to House No 105" - the house with Thomas and Sarah.

1861
Sarah MOORE (wid) 44 Nurse, Morton
with family of William MILNER (Farmer) in Morton ... possibly a temporary arrangement as

Robert MOORE (unm, son) 23 Labourer Ag
Elizabeth (dau) 19 Lately House Maid
Thomas (son) 12 Scholar
William (son) 10
Henry (son) 3
All born Morton

Thomas MOORE buried 25 Jan 1851 Morton (50)

You mentioned at the end that Thomas Moore was buried on 25 Jan 1851 in Morton aged 50. That must be 1861.
