Hi all, I am trying to track my great-grandfather Bertie THOMPSON's family in Dunedin. Some time ago, SKS sent me images from High Street School, Dunedin - admission-progress-withdrawal register 1882-1920 for which I am very grateful. On the page they came from Albany St school and one child, Maude is listed as going to Kindergarten and coming back to re-enrol.
The family - father Robert (ejected by his sons for drinking and womanising sometime between 1892-1900), mother Annie, children Gilbert (Bertie) (b 1879), Harry (1881), Stanley (1884), Maude (1886). Family story goes there were 8 sons and 1 daughter and some may have been half-siblings but not sure if they were mother's or father's?
In 1884, the family was living in 8 Leith St Dunedin. By 1886, Robert Thompson was a saddler living in Stafford Avenue Dunedin.
The family moved to Melville St Dunedin at the beginning of 1892. Robert was possibly removed by Feb 1894.
In 1900, the Robert was living in Maclaggan street Dunedin (while Harry, Bertie and Annie were all at 39 Russell St), and 1902 he was listed at both 39 Russell street and Maclaggan St (from the 1900 & 1902 electoral rolls). Robert is not listed in the area in 1903 (Harry, Bertie and Annie are all at 39 Russell St). There is no record of the family in 1905-6, but they are living at 39 1/2 Russell street in 1908, with Stanley Thompson living in 39. Robert is not listed as a voter then (?died or more likely kicked out)
I am not sure how school registers are indexed
I am trying to find out the names of younger siblings so I can then trace birth records and see if any are half sibs or how they are related. cheers Cas
