Another Frequently Asked Question: How do I add a link (an URL) to my posting ?
1) Copy & Paste the address direct from the website
- open the webpage (or RootsChat topic) you want to link to. the address will be in the address box of your browser. cliick on it with the left mouse-button. It should now turn blue i.e. "marked" If it doesn't, then move the mouse to the beginning of the address, and, holding the left button down, move the cursor to the end of the address. Now it should be marked.
- press the keys <ctrl> and <C> the marked address has now been copied to the clipboard.
- go to the topic you wish to reply to and click on "Reply"
- write your text and, at the place where you want the link to appear, press the keys Ctrl and V (copy from clipboard)
The address will now appear as a link in your reply.
2) Typing it directly into your post
If you know the address you can also type it directly into your reply.
- if the address starts with www then the forum software will recognise theat it is a weblink (an URL) e.g. www.1837online.com
- if not, then you have to type the full URL, including the http://, then the forum software will recognise it as an URL e.g. 1901census.rootschat.com is not recognise as an url but http://1901census.rootschat.com is recognised as an URL
Hope this helps Bob

Well, Tricia has said it all, short and sweet
but in case you found that a bit cryptic ....
some long links stretch the screen, so you have to keep scrolling right and left to read the posting.
In this case, use this topic, too:
