Old man Tucker of ticklebelly alley! 1901 census Deal
« on: Sunday 12 March 06 18:31 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Am trying to find my nans family and have not much luck. Was Deal missed of the 1901 census?

Am looking for father of  Gladys Alicia Tucker my nan 24 May 1916 - 1995 She married Fred Jackson of Lancashire. Her father was called Arthur Tucker and was known locally as old man Tucker and lived near Tickle Belly alley No1 St.Patricks Walk.

His parents were called Elizabeth and Albert Tucker and as far as I know they came from Deal, but I can't find any details on them.

I know he married a Alice Maud Tuck.

Can anyone help?

Yup, most of two census pieces. I'll try to find a bit more detail for you.

Gladys A. Tucker's birth was registered in Eastry registration district in the June quarter of 1916 volume 2a 2121 mother's maiden name Tuck.

Eastry registration district does cover Deal but all a 1916 birth tells you is  that's where the family was in 1916.

There seems to be no Alice Tucks showing in the whole of Kent on the 1901 census. FreeBMD does not find a marriage of an Alice Tuck to an Arthur Tucker between 1891 and 1901 a period for which it has complete coverage (complete coverage up to 1904). If Alice might not have come from Kent then it follows Arthur might not either.
I think you need to start from what you know and track down the marriage of Arthur Tucker to Alice Maud Tuck and work back from that with the added details from the marriage - Arthur and Alice's ages and their father's names and occupations.
There were 16 Arthur Tuckers on the 1901 census in Kent (remember some men may have been away in South Africa because of the Boer War) not all of whom were with their parents. There were obviously many more outside of Kent - 5 of whom were born in Kent.

Besides this if there are 1901 census pieces missing for Deal then it is even more imperative you have more information to try and trace the Tuckers in 1891. No Arthur born or in Deal in 1891, nor an Elizabeth but one Albert E. born Dover circa 1889 living in Deal. One Alice Tuck in Kent born circa 1880 in Cambridgeshire living in Rochester.

Hi Decco

I don't know if you made any progress with this request but there is a marriage for Alice Maud TUCK to Arthur TUCKER showing in the Maidstone registration district December quarter 1903 ref. 2a 1708

Yes, Alice Maud TUCKER appears on the 1911 census for Deal and she's born in Barming http://www.1911census.co.uk/
