McRae family from Applecross
« on: Sunday 12 March 06 22:46 UTC (UK) »

Hello
I'm a researcher in Canada looking for information on how to trace an ancestor: Kenneth McRae, born Applecross, Ross & Cromarty, around 1795. He married Catherine (Katherine or Kate) McKenzie..born same place.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andrea McRae

Hi Andrea

Welcome to Rootschat.
I'm searching for McRae's too ( in Kintail and Glenshiel ) and some of the sites that I've found useful are in my search are -

http://www.clan-macrae.org.uk/    This tells of the history of the MacRaes in Scotland and has a forum where you ask for help. There is a link to the Clan MacRae in Canada.

http://www.rootsweb.com/    Quite a lot of MacRae databases submitted in the Family Trees link to check out.

http://www.scotsorigins.com/   Search IGI births, christenings and marriages in the database...doesn't seem to be working at the moment but try later.

Hope this helps a little
Elaine

Check out www.applecrossheritage.org.uk website - click on photographs and you will see a photo of a Ken McRae taken during the WW1.  I know this isn't the Ken McRae you are looking for, but perhaps he is a descendant of your Kenneth McRae.

Andrea
I have an Anne MacRae who was born in Applecross in 1792 to John MacRae (crofter) and Mary MacRae nee McDonald.
Unfortuately have no details about these parents apart from their names but the time period is around yours.
Don't know if thats any help.
