When the national census was taken at the end of March 1851 he was described as a grocer and draper, living in Harwell Street, Harwell in Berkshire with his wife, two sons, apprentice and house servant. By April 1871 he had moved to live in Radnor Place, Didcot in Berkshire and was in business as a grocer, draper and general shop keeper.
He died in 1879. (Death registered in the Wallingford Registration District in the quarter ended December 1879.)
He was married in 1834 to Ann Trumplet WOODLEY, the daughter of John Woodley and Hannah Trumplet; she was born on 3 June 1813, and christened in Hampstead Norris in Berkshire on 11 July 1813. (FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index (v5.0) (British Isles).)
When the national census was taken in April 1881 she was a running the family grocer’s and draper’s business, living in Didcot with two of her grandsons, a shop assistant and a domestic servant. Ten years later, in April 1891, she was described as living on her own means with her son Edward at No. 11, King Street, Dover St. Mary in Kent.
