Hello All, I am hoping some one may find this family in the 1841 Census. Samuel Cox married Alice Sophia Wrighton at Braefield-on-the-Green on 10 Oct 1833. She aged 20, he aged approx 25.
By 1841 they had children Sarah Jane Cox born 1835, and John George Cox, born 7 Jan 1839, and perhaps a Samuel.
This family, and subsequent children appear on the 1851 census in Braefield-on-the-Green, but not in 1841.
Can some one tell me where they disappeared to for a few years?
Regards, Jean

Hello Sandy, Thank you very much for finding this family so quickly. In the 1851 Census, fellow researchers tell me that Samuel said he was born in Ireland. So he has led us on a merry chase looking for his birth there. One researcher even spent quite a bit of money with a professional researcher who investigated the families who belonged to a Northamptonshire regiment, in case his father was a soldier. We cannot verify this in 1861, as by then the family were here in NZ. So we will never know why he decided to say Ireland, but I am going to go with him being a native of Northamptonshire. Thank you for trying to find the baptisms too. Your efforts are much appreciated. The name Ellen Garner means nothing to me - perhaps they were babysitting a neighbour's child! Best Regards Jean

Hello Sandy, Thank you for confirming the statement born in Ireland in 1851. When he died in 1868, NZ BDM's at that time did not require birth details. As to what information he may have given as an assisted immigrant, I think I will have to check with the NZ Board for that. Again, thank you for all your help. Regards Jean

Hi Jean
I dont know whether there is a connection. My Great Grandfather was a William Smith Wrighton born about 1841 Hargrave Northants married to an Emma Reynolds. I cannot find William on the 1851 census so I could get his parents name. I think this is because of the different spellings (eg Royton, Wrightson, Wryton, Wright) I think his father could also be called William born about 1814 at Kimbolton, Huntingdon, so when your Wrighton came up could she be sister to this William born about 1814.
Could you help me with any of this information please?
Regards
Gillian

Hello Gillian,
My Wrightons are:
William Wrighton, son of George Righton and Allis was christened 4 Jan 1789 at Braefield on the Green. He married Sophia Smith on 20 Dec 1812 at Braefield on the Green. They had five daughters, all christened at Braefield on the Green. It seems that this is one family that stayed in the same place. Regards Jean
