Hi Wini
first things first - if I have been misinformed, I apolgise whole-heartedly
I will check with Dave, if he has recovered from his Pipe Band outing yesterday!
Second - it is the e-mail you provided in the post above that needs changing - sorry if that was not clear! Just use "Modify" on the post itself, and change the @ sign to [at] . Your personal e-mail can stay the same (I think, i don't post mine on my profile).
Phew - shall we start again??
Thanks for contributing - we may have led Maria astray otherwise

Hi again
I have had a reply from Dave.
If I understand him correctly, he is saying that although the records are in the Archive, it might still be worth contacting the Historian, as additional material might be available.
If the only information a police historian or society has is that the person's record is in a Library all they can do is refer the enquirer there. It may be however that other information is known, in which case such information would also be made available - the person may have written (or featured in) a book of memoirs, there may be a photograph, or something else - by the historical society. I hope I have selected wisely from his reply!
kind regards, Arranroots

Sorry to be a pain. You are dealing with a computer illiterate. Where do I find the email I am supposed to change.
Do you have a contact address, preferably email for the historical society?
My first contact was Alistair Dinmor, Chairman of TheGlasgow Police Heritage Society. I don't want to mislead anyone and my information only relates to Glasgow Police. My Grandfather came there from Sutherland and I believe a large number of Highlanders did the same. I just thought there was a chance that Maria's relative did the same thing. I am also told the Police provided his gravestone. Yet to be confirmed.

Sorry everyone I have been away for a couple of days and Iam just catching up on the replies.
I have had a reply from the Glasgow Police Heritage Society and have received the same reply as Winni has said he had i.e.The Mitchell library in Glasgow is where the Police Registers archives are kept. I had a really prompt reply from the GPHS which was appreciated. I shall now attempt to contact the Mitchell library. Would still appreciate any help Dave may have available to him. Thanks everyone Maria

Hi Wini, Thanks for the info. Will email them now. Did you pay the 10pound stg to get your Grandfathers info. If so did it have all the history of his days in the police force . Maria

Mariac, They send out a form in the mail They sent me an email telling me it was on the way. I am guessing that you then have to arrange payment then The information they gave me was that there was three different reports 2 as Probationary Constable and a final one, however, they did say that the final report contains the information of the two Prelim reports So i am only going to order the final one. Not sure where you are but mine will probably be a couple of weeks getting to me. The delay isn't the archives fault, they have been very prompt.
Good Luck.I am dying to see mine
