Does anyone have any information about Craigend? House in High Street, Kilmarnock? My Great Grandparents were married there in 1902 and i can't find any information about it. All the rest of the Scottish family seemed to marry in churches so i am curious to know why they were married in a house and what sort of house it is/was. any photos would be a nice adding to have as well if anyone knows if it is still standing.

Have tried to find out about Craigend House without success. There was a Craigend Mill in Kilmarnock but I doubt they got married there!! The only other thing I could think of was Craig House which was outside Kilmarnock. There is a Craigend Road in Troon. Perhaps a look in a street directory for Kilmarnock for 1902 but I haven't had a chance to check with The Dick Institute, Kilmarnock or the Baird Institute, Cumnock. Your other option could be the Ayrshire Archives.
However you may have found out something yourself by now.

Thankyou for looking for me, i still haven;t found anything out about it, but i was thinking about writing to the local council in Kilmarnock to see if they know anything about it.

You don't seem sure about the name Craigend? could it be Craighead House, as shown in the 1881 census. It was not uncommon for marriages to take place outside churches and could have been at one of the homes, at work etc.
You don't say what your g/gparents were employed as, if they were in domestic service then they could well have been married at their place of employment. Craighead is in the High St area of Kilmarnock.

Thankyou for the reply. I think it is more likely to be Craighead House, i couldn't read the marriage place properly.
My g/grandfather was the manager of the Newmilns gasworks and g/grandma was a lace maker. Do you know who was living in Craighead House in 1901? If they were married in 1902 it is possible that they knew the occupants.
