R.I.C. men Sloan & Magill 1868
« on: Sunday 19 March 06 20:54 UTC (UK) »

When printing off the records for my R.I.C. ancestor the following were on the same sheet - they may be of interest to someone:

No 34486 Sloan Robt. A., age 19, Co. of birth: Antrim, Religion: Protestant, Occ. labourer. not married, joined 9th June 1868. Served in Derry, Dublin, Mayo. Pensioned on 23/7/1895. The next bit is hard to read but it looks like 'Conn. in London' .

No.34487 Magill Jas. age 22, Co. of birth Scotland & Antrim, Religion Catholic, Occ. labourer, not married, joined 9th June 1868. Served ?? Co. Down. Discharged 26/3/1870. Once again hard to read looks like 'Conn. in Antrim.

I say 'not married' as that part of the record is blank in both cases.

Carol.

Would one of the members reading this thread have any idea of the meaning of the abbreviation Conn ?

Carol,

Where were you able to locate the RIC records as my great uncle suggested that his grand father, James Elliott, might have been a policeman in Belfast anywhere between the years 1870 -1895.
