Symon Family Crathie and Braemar
« on: Wednesday 06 October 04 09:26 UTC (UK) »

Hi all.
Is anyone looking at the Symon family from Crathie and Braemar?  I have a Charles Symon who is buried in the Howff in Dundee 1848
Old Soldier and Pensioner - born Crathie and Braemar
According to OPR he was born there in 1777, father John.

I believe he may have stopped off in Kirriemuir, Angus as I have a Charles (soldier) fathering 3 children there to Betty Adamson.

I am trying to find out if this is the same Charles who father an illegt son to Isobel Smith in Kirriemuir in 1797.

I can only go back to 1841 in the censuses and can't find him in Kirrie at that time.  The only Charles I found in the 1841 Dundee census I believe is another guy who was married to an Isabel Grewar and they are both also buried in the Howff, however, Isabel is also from Braemar (confusing).  I intend to search all Angus censuses next week.

If anyone has come across the Symon family in Crathie and Braemar or can shed any light on this I would be very grateful.

Happy searching
Lesley
