Martha Page born Leominster 1839
« on: Wednesday 06 October 04 13:09 BST (UK) »

Can any one Help  Please
Martha Page was born 13 Feb 1839

She married Ferdinand Thomas Leadbeater where and when not sure.
They were on the 1871 census in Birmingham area and they had her mother Mary living with them she was about 67.

By the 1881 census Martha was widowed with about 5 children one a little baby.

I believe William Page and Mary Wood were her parents they married Leominster 1838.
There was a death for William 1856 in Leominster. Also a death for Mary in Birmingham 1879 age 75 Mary was born Alcester.  Can anyone confirm this information for me or am I tracing the wrong family.

Kindest Regards Pam

Hi Pam,

Did you ever get a reply to this elsewhere? If not, I can have a look at the 1841 census for Leominster.

Hi,

I've only looked partway through Leominster (on piece 430) in the 1841 - plus there are lots of hamlets in the parish as well - but I will continue when I get a chance.

Found one possible match so far - but no husband at home, and ages of children no good for William PAGE & Mary WOOD who married 1838:

Leominster / fo 26 / pg 14
South Street
Mary PAGE / 31 / / N
Sarah PAGE / 7 / / Y
Emily PAGE / 5 / / Y
Caroline PAGE / 4 / / Y
Martha PAGE / 2 / / Y
(cont. on fo 26 / pg 15)
William PAGE / 2mo / / Y

In the 1871, what is mother Mary's birthplace? If it is in Herefordshire, this probably rules out the above as Mary says "N" for "Born in County". Also she looks a bit young, though I've found ages can vary a lot between censuses.

FWIW the only other PAGE I have seen so far is further back on South Street (head William PAGE, perhaps old enough - 50 to 54 - to be father of the one who married in 1838):

Leominster / fo 21 / pg 5
South Street
William PAGE / 50 / Carpenter / Y
Elizabeth PAGE / 50 / / N
Edmund PAGE / 20 / Lab / Y
Samuel PAGE / 19 / Ironmonger Ap / Y
Henry PAGE / 15 / Carpenter / Y
Josiah PAGE / 13 / / Y

Cheers

Dear Steve

On the 71 census it has Mary as born in Alcester she was with Martha and Thomas in the Birmingham area Kings Norton.
Marys age is 67.and a widow. By the 81 census Martha is a widow. but without the mother.

I cannot find the marriage for Martha and Thomas either he is Thomas Ferdinand or I think Ferdinand Thomas. Their eldest son Thomas is age 5 on the 71 census if I was sure of his birth date and sent for his certificate, I would most proberly find when or if his parents married before his birth.

I have so many certificates I would love to send for, I am worried that some are not mine.  It would cost me quite abit would be nice if I could go in to the births deaths and marriage offices. Instead of ordering on line. I live in Australia.

Anyway many thanks I must end before this silly computor freezes up again.

Kindest regards Pam

Hello Thank you for your information Allibaker on the 51 and 61 census I had forgotten I had posted for Martha.

I have since then payed for a subscription to Ancestry. Just a bit of information on the Pages.

I could not realy connect the family altogether, I sent for a couple of death certificates of Mary Page one which was not mine. But one which had a inquest listed on it.  Kind people from the Birmingham library sent me a copy of the inquest (I had to pay but they sent the copies before I paid for them)
The address was not with Martha but the witnesses were a  Ann Page and Amelia Baker and Elizabeth Allen.

I did not know this Ann but checking the census I think was the 81 . Ann wife of William and Amelia step daughter of William.  So Mary must have followed her brother to Birmingham. Which remind me I must look up Caroline.

Thank you Regards Pam
