HTML & Rootschat Logo Help
« on: Monday 20 March 06 21:50 GMT (UK) »

I'm not sure if this should be here or on the technical help board, so please move it if necessary.

I have been fiddling with my website and have noticed the following when I look at the HTML code on my home page

Quote
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--

function SymError()
{
  return true;
}

window.onerror = SymError;

var SymRealWinOpen = window.open;

function SymWinOpen(url, name, attributes)
{
  return (new Object());
}

window.open = SymWinOpen;

//-->
</SCRIPT>

I know nothing about HTML (that'll teach me to be nosy) and was wondering if I had done anything wrong on my site, as it says "window.onerror = SymError;" . It seems to load and work OK in my browser, so could I delete this?

Also, I seem to have the "webspace provided by Rootschat" bit on each page twice. Why would this be and is there any way I can get rid of one of them.

I use NetObjects Fusion7 to build & upload my site (in case you need this info)

Thanks

Nadine

Hi Nadine,

Now this is the blind leading the blind!!  Grin Grin

Not sure about the rest - but when you save the original page after loading it will have the rootschat logo on it - alter any part and when you reload it will put another logo on to it so....

Before you reload remove the bottom 6/7 lines of text - you can't miss which bits - saying about the logo - then when you reload it will only have 1 logo on the page.

Hope that makes sense!!

Cheers

Nadine, your website uses frames.  The left frame links to the menu on the left.  The right frame links to the main page.  These are separate HTML pages (it's just that the index.html page links to both and appears like it is one page).  Each frame therefore has their own "Local and Family History Webspace donated by: www.RootsChat.com" on them.  The same happens on my website on my trees page because I have used an iframe.

There are ways to get around it but they're more complicated and I don't know the code for them off the top of my head.

Nadine, your website uses frames.

Nadine

I used to have frames on my site (built with NetObjects Fusion 7).  I had some problems with them, and I also read that they are search engine unfriendly.  So I got rid of them!

If you want to do likewise, I suggest saving your site under a different name, experiment with removing the frames, and see the results on a local publish.  When you're happy with the results you can then save the resulting NOF site back under the original filename.

You set the frames under the MasterBorder properties, second tab from the right.
