In the 1851 census, there are two lunatic asylums listed for Aberdeen, both in Old Machar Parish (Aberdeen burgh). There is "The Lunatic Asylum of Aberdeen" and "Lunatic Asylum, Middlefield". I have seen both of these institutions on the microfilms. I would expect that they will be on ScotlandsPeople in the same way as the household censuses.
On thing that I do not have note of is whether the patients of these asylums are listed by name or by initials only. Quite a few lunatic asylums listed their patients by their initials only. That makes it almost impossible to find any one for sure. I have no idea if ScotlandsPeople has indexed initilas-only people (and if they have, how meaningful is it?).
I would expect the 1861 census to have the lunatic asylums enumerated similarly.
