Hi Wonderfuls,
I would like some further advice.
I have a friends tree, that they would like me to put on the free web space.... What is best.... 1. Somehow add it to my web space, ?( as I would be doing all the work).... or 2. Should I apply for new web space....
if I added it to my web space, would I upload it to a folder and it would have it's own index, or should I just add the tree to my tree and upload them together....(which I don't mind...)
Look forward to the usual wonderful advice.... Plus can someone check that my 2 pages of pictures are there, on my site......I would hate to have lost them again... Thanks so much... from Jo

Hi Jo, from one of the (many) Wonderfuls, (Who said flattery will get you nowhere ? )
I think it depends very much on the friends.
If they are likely to get interested enough, get them to join RootsChat and apply for their own webspace. Then you can be their mentor and talk them through the "how to"s (with help, where needed, from all us Wonderfuls)
If you feel they wouldn't get that interested, then I suggest you just set up a new folder on your website, with a link from your home-page.
Basking, Bob
ps. your photos are still there

Hi Jo,
My dear friends are in their 80s, and I did their tree for them, it would just give them a kick yes, that would be wonderful for them.
You probably have a local copy of your website on your computer, which you upload to your site. The easiest way of doing this is create a folder there, and add your friends' details. This way the structure will be the same for the website, and if all the links are relative to your root web folder, then they will also work on your webspace. Add a link to your home page and then test offline till it's OK. see Topic: Tutorial: Step-by-Step Guide to building your website 5 Testing / Pre-Viewing your website http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,93490.0.html
then upload it to your site.
Good luck ! Bob

Sorry Burrow Digger that isn't so.
Every directory should have an index.htm(l) file included in them.
Without the index page in a directory it is possible to get a directory listing of the directory. Rootschat does not allow this but some servers do. It is therefore good practice to have an index file in each directory.

Thanks for this update, but i am a little confused.........as usual,
So tell me slowly...
If I put the new tree in a folder which sits in amongst my first tree, FTP, and in this new folder, I can have an Index?
I would need an index wouldn't I? Please straighten me out.

Jo

Right
On your hard drive on your computer you have a directory (call it NET) which contains all your files which you upload to the Rootschat server.
You probably upload them to your "root" directory on the server.
In that case, you should create a new directory in your NET directory.
That new directory is the one in which you should create your neighbour's tree.
One of those files "The Home Page" should be called "index.html".
You will need a link from your Home Page to the new and back again.
