Hi Mogs,

Elizabeth Dear is my gg grandmother and have LOTS of info!
Mary Jane oldest of about 9 or 10 (don't have details to hand) and Alexander Carey is my g grandfather. Have fairly comprehensive details on Mary Jane's branch too as met up with one of her grand-children a few years ago.
Re: Old Red Castle - think they were living at Cotton of Red Castle in one birth certificate. Found location on map but has long since been ploughed over. They family moved about a bit and this would be because they moved to where the work was. Alexander & Betsy came to Glasgow via Fife - Kilconquhar and St Andrew's.

Hi grey seagull,
thanks for your prompt reply, wow.. am amazed..so we are kind of related! I have Mary Jane's birth certificate dated 1861, Also have photos of her so when I figure out how to put them on here will do so. Her daughter was called Margaret Isabel Flemming and is my g gran, who I remember clearly as a  child. You are right they did end up in Glasgow, Margaret in Clydebank , but when her daughter my gran moved to England so did she. Ironically they moved back to Forfar where their family were from as my gran bought Lunan House which over looks old red castle ..how strange...spent many happy childhood holidays there. Which grandchild of Mary's did you meet..will probably know of them. Mary Jane had 6 girls and 1 boy called James who was injured in the 1st world war and ended up in America, but later died. Would love to know more of your info..still trying to get to grips with all this am a pure novice.

Hi,

We are third cousins, once removed.

Lost the trail on your branch a bit when it went to England but picked it up again at Lunan. It's a lovely place. Incidentally, one of William's  & Elspeth's daughters - Agnes? - died in Lunan hours after giving birth to her second child...

Hi Mog 1

Any idea where and when James went to the US?  He had a cousin - James Ferrier,  who also lived in Clydebank with his family - and they moved out to the US in 1913 to Detroit, Michigan.  Just wondered if they were in the same place?

Huh

I'll toss a hat in the ring.

Hector Young Ferrier (22 March 1869 - 11 June 1937), cattle dealer, lived latterly at The Anchorage, Friockheim, in the parish of Kirkden, married to Catherine Nicol Wemyss Drummond.

What was his connection with Ethie Haven?
