I have a Daniel McCallum born approx 1856 in Argyll, who was married to a Jeannie McDermid in New Zealand in 1883. I dont have the marriage cert yet - will need to get that next, to hopefully get the parents names.
But I did come across this page online.
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/4081/mccallum.html
This page mentions the following family
Donald McCallum married to Christina Sinclair
Their son Malcolm McCallum b: Abt. 1815 Argyll, d: 28 Feb 1901 Campbeltown, Argyll, married to Mary Colville b: 26 Apr 1817 Argyll, m: 17 Feb 1844 Argyll
Malcolm's children - Christina C. McCallum b: 29 Jan 1845 Kilcalmonell, Argyll, SCT d: 27 Jun 1907 Campbeltown, Argyll, - John McCallum b: 29 Sep 1848 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew d: Unknown - Marion McCallum b: Abt. 1851 Askness, Argyll d: Unknown - William McCallum b: Abt. 1854 Tarbert, Argyll d: Unknown - Daniel McCallum b: Abt. 1856 Campbeltown, Argyll d: Unknown - Duncan McCallum b: Abt. 1859 Tomaig, Argyll d: Unknown
Does anyone have any other info about this family or know where and how I can find details - outside of Scotlands People?
Thanks.

Malcolm's family is not my McCallum family.
My Daniel McCallum's parents were John McCallum and Jennie McMillan - according to his marriage cert.
There is an IGI extracted record for a marriage between John & Jennie.
John MACCALLUM Spouse: Janet MACMILLAN Married: 25 AUG 1851 Glassary, Argyll, Scotland

Finally found the right marriage.
MARRIAGE: County of Argyll,Parish of Southend: John McCallum,Labourer, Lepherstrath, and Jane McMillan, Dunglass, were married 14th October 1847
In the 1861 census John was aged 36 & Jean/Jane was aged 39
According to 1841 census - John was aged 15 and his parents were John & Isabel McCallum. Which makes sense since in 1861 one of his daughters was called Isabella

Taking another look at the 1841 census for this family - John McCallum (aged 15) who later married Jeanie McMillan. His parents were John & Isabel McCallum.
There is a marriage record in the IGI for John McCallum to Isabel Conlly in 1809 in Southend, Argyll (extracted record). But the 1841 census says he was born in Ireland and her birthplace was listed as unknown.
So I checked the IGI for John McCallum born about 1786 in Ireland. There were only 14 born 10 years either side of that date. One was born in County Down in 1786 - the son of James McCollum and Sarah Kerr. The christening record said "Presbyterian, Boardmills, Down, Ireland"
Does this mean it was quite likely that the family was from Scotland since the Scots are Presbyterian? County Down is in what we now call Northern Ireland so it was strongly Protestant.
What possible reasons would have induced any Scotsman to move to Ireland in the late 1700s??
