I am trying to find out some more information about my grt grt uncle Josiah Wilson whom lived in Scarborough and was school master at Amicable School. Would there be any records kept. If so where would they be kept . I have got the 1891 census with him on.
I know that the Amicable Society was formed in Scarborough in 1729 and they set up an Amicable School around about 1817 on a site just off Castle Road in Scarborough. The site is actually between North Terrace and Castle Road, which ties up with the adjacent entries on the census you refer to.
Have you seen him in the 1881 census where he is a Schoolmaster at Hinderwell (North of Whitby)? Let me know if you need the full entry.
Best wishes
