I am researching the Butler family from Oylegate. In particular Thomas Butler born 1879 son of Pierce butler. If anyone is familiar with this area I should be interested to hear from them

Hi,
I don't know if you have lots of information and just want to link up about the area or you would like some pointers. If it's the latter- these might be a little use - otherwise sorry I can't help much.
This site:
www.leitrim-roscommon.com has some Wexford indexes- has got a Thomas aged 18 yrs with father Pierce and mother Kate. Not much more but woujld be worth a look.
This site tells you a bit about the parish of Edermine in 1837which includes Oylgate - a bit of background info.

You have probably already just 'googled' for the area to read about it now.
http://www.familysearch.org has 3 children to a Pierce and Catherine -2 may be yours -no Thomas though- you could look there - it gives a surname for Kate- Cullen- is that yours? There is another one as well.
Lastly, this site www.irishgenealogy.ie has a reference to a couplf of Pierce Butlers but a different Catherine! That's family history for you!

Hi Erin,
glad it was of some use- it is difficult with Irish research.
Go to www.familysearch.org 
Then click the 'search' tab;
click IGI tab - and fill in as follows: 
Father Pierce Butler ;Mother  Catherine (based on 1901 -wife Kate;
region- British Isles; country Ireland; County Wexford.
You should get 3 children. Sadly they are within 2 years- 2 are for your area, 1 just for Wexford.

The other was a Margaret but mother was Hayes and there is no district- only says Wexford.
If though Ellen and John are yours then you have Catherine's name- Cullen if you didn't have it- more to look for now!

Yes I am fairly sure I ordered them through LDS centre. I have also seen them in Ireland so hope I'm not confusing them.
