"A History of Hawthorn" Victoria
« on: Friday 24 March 06 23:59 GMT (UK) »

Hi there
Can someone please lookup the book "A History of Hawthorn" and tell me what it says about Henry BOX on page 24, and the BOX Family on page 31.

Henry and his wife Ann BOX died in Hawthorn, Victoria in 1882 and 1878.
Children were Ann, Henry, Fanny Rebecca, William Draper, John Burnet, Charles Villatte and George Hayward BOX. Marriage and children's birth occurred in Staffordshire, England.

Many thanks
Vicki

Hi Vicki,
Have been to the library and done your look up.
As it is a bit wordy, I will PM you the details, but in case any other chatters were interested, the references are to Henry Box's role on the Board which auspiced some roads in Boroondara and to his interest in the establishment of a Chuch of England, the first in the area.
I also managed to track some of his business details over the years.

Hi vicki,
Have just spotted an interesting reference to William Draper Box on Nat. Govt. Archives  site.

He was a bit of an inventor I think.  All about artesian water pumps.
Go to records search>search as a guest>type in full name only >search

http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html

Also found this which may tie in with the findings in 'History of Hawthorn ' book re Henry Box's place of residence - Manningtree, Hawthorn

Hi Vicki,
Hope you managed to see the William Draper Box reference through the Box tangle!  Did you like the photo of the old house?
A tip which helps a bit on the Nat Govt. Archive site, when there are too many records to look at is to try to work from any female attachment names (eg the mother, wife, sister) of the man you are looking for.  They will often be Next of Kin in a listing so they pop up in a smaller group of records. Sometimes helps anyway.
Cheers for now,
Sue
