Hi St Martins is near Oswestry on the Shropshire/Denbighshire borders. I don't think that they are near Astley or Marton Myddle.

Marton,Myddle and Astley are all within about 5 miles of each other, just north of Shrewsbury which probably means that the St Martins that you are looking for is actually a little church in the village of Preston Gubbals.

hope this helps

hello again

I thought that I had better point out that there is a New Marton and an Old Marton not far from the village that Gadget mentioned.

Hi s.g.d.
This is a bit confusing as there is another post by Allan concerning a Thomas Lewis, b.c. 1790, St Martins who had a son Edward who married this Sarah Williams.
I've checked my St Martins (Oswestry) records and find that there was indeed a Thomas Lewis, bpt.July 1788, s. of Thomas and Mary Lewis. No sign of Esther Williams though. Although there was a Hester Lewis bpt. 9 May 1891, d. of Robert and Anne Lewis.
I think I'd like to hear which St Martins Allan means before I look any further - or maybe the IGI might through some light on it all Undecided

hello Gadget

it is a puzzler!

I thought that I had better mention the Martons near St Martins to try and avoid sending anyone off in the wrong direction.

Yes s.g.d. - I should have mentioned it but thought I might confuse things. I have found an Elizabeth Lewis, bpt. St Martins (Oswestry), 6 Feb 1806, to a Thomas and Elizabeth Lewis but that's about all.

Hi Allan
That's the one that I've looked at. The info I've found is shown above.  My records only go to 1812 butI notice that the IGI does have all the Bishops Transcript versions of the Parish Church records for St M up to 1841, so you should be able to find  more on that - www.familysearch.org The Batch number for births is C085801
