Kathleen KEIGHTLEY (D) 1929

Could anyone help trace Kathleen Keightley died in 1929 January or February. Am looking to trace her parents. This is a difficult one for us as this was my mother in law's mother and Kathleen died either in childbirth or soon thereafter and we have no record of her parents apart from her father was in the guard (but don't know which division and her mother was either swedish or they married in sweden.

Hi Sally

Do you know her maiden name (or was it KEIGHTLEY?).  Do you have her death cert?  You need to know how old she was and roughly where she came from.  Her marriage cert would provide her father's name and occupation.

Obviously the cheapest way to do this is to ask m-i-l if she already has these documents, or the information. M-i-law's birth cert would also provide Kathleen's maiden name.

Can you give us a few more clues, please?

Hi, sorry i was not being clear - Keightley was the maiden name and Hadgraft was Kathleen's married name.

My mother in law was never told any info about her mother apart from what i have said unfortunately her mother's parents did not want the baby (m-i-l) when their daughter died and (m-i-l's) father's parents brought her up. He soon re-married and it was not the done thing to ask about her maternal mother in front of his new wife apparently. All very sad as (m-i-l) is now 78 and is wanting to trace and im at a loss as to where to start as we don't know Kathleen's birth year what year she got married etc.

I understand the situation - I have been helping an 87 year old friend find his grandfather!!

The same things apply - get hold of m-i-l's birth cert first.  Have a look for the marriage, just in case it took place in the England. Was m-i-l the only child?  The age of the eldest would give a clue to when the marriage took place.

This might not be a quick search, but the information should be there.

I will see if I can find anything useful

Yes her birth certificate says Kathleen Keightley was her mother and yes she was the only child.  Father then went on to have another child with his new wife.

Now im wondering if the fact that her mother died might have been a fabricated story that they told her, you don't know do you. But i don't suppose many got divorced in 1929.

I don't know it might be sounds as though it could as mother in law was born January 1929 and was told her mother died either in childbirth or soon after, but not sure on the Nellie bit. I just tried to contact m-i-l but obviously gone awol at the moment. But thanks for  that info. Can you tell me where i can go and look that up and show her please.

You can order a few certs based on this.

There is an Arthur HADGRAFT on the 1901 census who could possible be Arthur's father - he is in Suffolk.  Possibly your Arthur was not born.

I could tell you straight away if mother in law hadn't gone out he died  around 1990ish i can't remember the exact date and he was in his 80-'s i believe sorry to be vague
