I've just realised/noticed something.

If you follow the website link I posted above, and find Arthur's entry, you will also find a note of his second marriage.  And a son and two children from that marriage.  All three are listed as "living".

Does Sally's mother-in-law know that she has a half-brother with children who are still alive???

Hi Dave

I just had a look at that site. Mother in law is listed as Kathleen J obviously a typing error as she is June Kathleen.

The half brother yes she does know him - he was born to Arthur and new wife Gertrude but mother in law wasn't wanted in their new life together which is why she was brought up by Arthur's parents.

thanks for that i will pass that website on to her.

Hi Arranroots & Tanja

We have got the marriage certificate copy for Arthur F Hadgraft and Nellie K M Keightley and this is my mother-in-laws parents. (She was very pleased with that).

On the marriage certificate Nellie Keightley's father says Harry Keightley - tobacco worker etc.  Originated from Boston Lincs. Seems to have moved to Ipswich in 1901 and lived at 18 Surbiton Road.

What i can't find is Nellie's birth documented anywhere (mother in law still says she remembers being told her mother was born in Malmo Sweden) bearing in mind she had older sisters Anne and Doris whom would have been born after the 1901 census and before 1908.

Apart from the 3 we saw in Yorkshire when you looked for me on Sunday. To complicate matters i cannot see any record of Harry living in Yorkshire at any time.

Are you confused yet? I am.

A shot in the dark, but a possibility ...

If I were a betting person

1901 census

RG13/1774/151/29

Harry KEIGHTLEY H M - 27 - packer in tobacco factory - Lincolnshire Boston
Nellie L W M 21 - Suffolk Ringshall

Address: 18 Surbiton Road, Ipswich St Matthew, Suffolk

What do you think?

 Wink

We should definitely let Arranroots play the lottery for us, what do you think?

1837online.com hold the GRO consular birth indices for 1849 to 1965. Perhaps you could ask for a look-up?

This should be Harry's birth:
Harry Keightley
March quarter 1874
Boston registration district
7a 435

Would you like Nellie Laflin in 1891 in the meantime? (If you search for her in 1881, she's Ellen L)

1891
RG12/1456 17 3
Combs, Suffolk
Hadliegh Road

Frederick Laflin, had 47, Agricultural labourer, b. Suffolk Ringshall
Eliza, wife, 43, b. Willisham
Alice, dau, 15, b. Ringshall
Nellie, dau, 10, b. Ringshall
Kate, dau, 8, b. Ringshall

Frederick can be traced back to 1851, where he is with his grandparents. He's never with his parents though.
