1901 Help needed
« on: Tuesday 28 March 06 03:57 UTC (UK) »

I have just received Death Notices from Canada for family members. They can not be found on the 1901 or 1911 Canadian Census so maybe they went  from England or Wales to Canada. Could someone please see if they can find these names in a family. This is all i have to go on.
Family Name Fletcher
Children are Ivan, Alfred, Elise, John b abt 1893
John Alfred Fletcher married Meggy Stonehouse in Canada. Date unknown
John Alfred Fletcher died 1966 Vancouver, B.C. In his obit it mentions he is survived by brothers Ivan and Alfred and 2 Sisters Elise and a Mrs B Rennie all living in Canada.
Can anyone help Please
Many Thanks

I did a search for Elise (as it was the most unusual name) on Ancestry 1893 with a +/- 5 years and came up with this family

RG13/2814/12/15
in Edgebaston, Warwickshire England

Alfred J Fletcher Head M 49 Brewers Manager, Birmingham, Warwickshire
Jane                   Wife  M 43
Mabel C              Dau  S  20
John E                Son   S  19 Hardware Merchants Clerk
Lillian                  Dau  S  18
William A             Son   S 17 Chemists Apprentice
Elise M                 Dau  S 10
Alfred E                Son      6
Janette E Freeman Serv S 23 Cook Domestic

Only Ivan missing, he may well have left home already, I will check earlier census.  Oh by the way everyone was born Birmingham, Warwickshire

1891 RG12/2357/50/25 same address

All elder children the same, after William there is an

Edith Fletcher  dau  5
and then looks like Ollie but looking at the rest of the census they have a big loop at the top of the E so could be Elsie aged 2months. This may well be Elise.

Sorry no Ivan.

Not sure if this helps, but its fun looking

KarenM found a Death Reg for Ivan Fletcher Vancouver in 1972 age 71. The family that Casalguidi found seems to be the best fit at the moment.
