I like the Origins idea too.  It would be an idea to have that mapped out. Smiley

Must get back to sticking my census returns into gedcom census now that Christmas is done!!! Undecided

JulianB originally started this topic, with a question
Quote
I'd like to get family tree charts (direct ancestors only) onto my site.

While I have some trees at the moment they are not very good - I used a Microsoft excel template and converted them into web pages and imported them into my site.

I've looked at http://www.ida.net/users/elaine/pedigre2.htm and had a go but I don't like the typeface.  I couldn't work out how to change it!

Anyone got any suggestions?

JULIAN

I decided to have a go at constructing some pedigree charts, and while I was at it, I thought I'd do some descendant charts, too.
I looked at the ..../elaine/pedigre2... example, but decided to "go a different route" ....

I am pleased how the Family Trees worked out, but they have one big disadvantage: if I want to add new people, I have to do it by hand !
This time I decided to write the charts in PHP, using a GEDCOM as a basis.  Now, if I add people to the GEDCOM, I may have to change the parameters in some links, but that's all..

The charts take a few seconds to load, as they are newly constructed each time, but there is only one descendant chart page, instead of 13 seperate HTML pages, and one pedigree chart page, instead of 10 seperate HTML pages.

I've also added a few bells and whistles:

- Direct lines are automatically in bold type
- if a biography page is available, then the link is added automatically.

I managed both by adding a keyword to the GEDCOM notes, and looking for this keyword, when I construct the tables.

You can see the results at http://boco.rootschat.net/i-trees.php

Bob

ps.
You can also make Descendant charts in HTML in Legacy,

An elegant solution, Bob!  Thanks for sharing this with us - I can see this must have taken some work ... but it's worth it!

By the way, has anyone tried www.geni.com to construct their tree?  I don't think the product is exportable, however  Huh

cheers
