PS a thumb nail tree would be loverly Bob - could we commision someone to do a template Having said that, in "Oh, I wish ..." kind of way, I just thought of an answer
Use a graphics program to make the "screen-size" thumbnail. In HTML it is possible to mark certain areas of a graphic as links, so you just go to the part you want and click on it
An example of this is fancy menu buttons: you make one graphic image of all the buttons and use mapping to "separate" the individual buttons.
The downside is that a large graphic takes a while to load
So if if anyone has a better idea, let's hear it

I've just had a poss idea
Just make a large table with the whole tree on - each person in small cells. Then hot links on each cell to a specific three generation table which links to other 3 gen tables as pop-ups maybe
A hell of a lot of programming but
WYSIWYG - my new name

Sounds good
Call the large table the overview.
There is a program called Adam that actually makes HTML charts, but they all have the some name. So if you (or 'one' !) spent time making the individual 3-g charts, and renaming them, then they coul be linked to from the overview
here's an example: http://tutorial.rootschat.net/adam/baumq.htm : just the tree http://tutorial.rootschat.net/adam/index.htm : for the whole nine yards
It looks fine in IE but lousy in Firefox
Bob
Download adam from http://www.use-adam.de/ (german site, but the 'download' button is translated as 'download' and the program can be installed in english)

Work in Progress:
When I converted my "excel trees" (see reply #25, this topic) to HTML I found that they were horribly bloated - 108 KB and they looked horrible. Printing the tables and scanning them produced JPEG files between 50 - 95 KB for each tree.
So I then took the Excel tables as templates and started writing each one in HTML and CSS.
It took the best part of a day to do the first one, but the second one was a lot quicker, once I'd got into the swing (routine !) of it. The resulting HTML page was about 10 KB so I then added a few "bells & whistles"
I now have links on the tables so I can see just the direct lines, direct lines with siblings, and the extended family (i.e. including siblings's families.) (tip: do the full 'extended family' first, and then make two copies - 'direct lines', 'with siblings' - and then delete the unneeded bits in each file.)
The results for the Margulies trees can be seen at http://boco.rootschat.net/fam-mar-tree-xf.php
Still got another three to do, then I might try combining them into one tree for the whole family (just for fun - of course )

I have now converted all five family trees to HTML. My back aches and my fingers ache, but I'm pleased with the results.
I've also added (yet) another 'feature:
There was a topic on RootsChat a while ago, asking who we are, i.e. where do we come from. I have copied the "direct lines" chart and replaced all the names with the places of birth.
So now I can see at a glance, where we come from.
The link is on each tree page (reached through the "Trees & Charts" link http://boco.rootschat.net/i-trees.php ) and is called Origins
example: http://boco.rootschat.net/fam-col-tree-or.php

Very nice, Bob - I like the 'origins' idea, too! Well worth all those aching limbs!
