Markfield Sanatorium

Hi to you all.

Has anyone information on the sanatorium that existed in Markfield in the 1940's?
It acted as an isolation unit for patients who had contacted T.B.
Any information would be most welcome.

Hi

I think 'Markfield Hospital' closed sometime in the 1990's - it was certainly still open and operating as a TB hospital in the late 1970s - I used to do an afternoon a week there as a voluteer on the childrens minor surgical ward where they corrected squints and took tonsils out etc.  I should think Leics Records Office might have more info

The sanatorium Hospital was sold off in the 70s and now owned by the Islamic Foundation International Trust.When Prince charles visited our village he planted a tree at our Community centre and then went off and spent the rest of the time with them.We were very upset that this represented our village of Markfield as it does not and never did.We wanted to preserve our hospital which would have provided essential care to an ever growing community and should not have been sold off.Anyway hope this helps.x.
