I have finally received the marriage certificate for Amelia Morgan.  Smiley

It confirms her Father was George Morgan (deceased) Confectioner, which I hope ties up with George Morjeanstern Confectioner and family, in 1851 census.

After a little reading about name changes (1800's) it seemed that people could easily change their names if they needed too without any documentation. It also appears that not all naturalisation papers survived, even if they went through the process (George probably tried in 1830's-1840's). I have found a reference for him in Slater's 1848 Lancashire directory, in Burnley as a confectioner, but that is all I can find as yet.

Maybe I have finally broken through that brickwall  Wink  only to find another one with George, but suppose that's the way it goes.

I have Mesilia Morjeanstern's birth certificate ordered, but don't expect it to give me any more info.

Thanks for everyone's opinion and help. Smiley

Hi Andy001, believe me I wish I had applied to the Liverpool Office!!!

I'll be trying the Birmingham office for my dad's side.  Smiley

Mesilia Morjeanstern's certificate is due to be dispatched 22 March, so I'll wait and see when it turns up. I used the GRO so I could apply online, so now it's back to snail mail for me.  Roll Eyes

Mesilia's birth certificate is here, finally.  Smiley

Nothing more to add really other than it confirms Mesilia's father is George Morjeanstern - confectioner and her mother is Mary Morjeanstern formerly Quin (not another one!  although, hopefully it's a different line to the other Quinn who Amelia (Mesilia) married.

The good news is they lived on Park Lane  Smiley , the bad news is it's Liverpool not London.  Grin , more precise St Thomas Liverpool. Funny My husbands been up there on business recently and today, and was amused to see that they have copied, at some time, some of the major London street names and now I find my GG Grandmother was born at a home on one of them.

As yet I have not found any more about George Morjeanstern despite allsorts of variations of his name. I also have contacted people without any luck so far  Sad  even the Jewish websites, but I'm still hoping.

I'm now going to explore the Park Lane area of Liverpool 1843 it there is any info about it.

Looking forward to Ancestry's 1841 census details coming online to see if they are living in Liverpool before Mesilia was born. Hope they get a move on!

Thanks All, for help so far if you have any more ideas please let me know.

Why is it bad news its Liverpool not London?

One reason:

Have you ever played Monopoly ??

Park Lane is "next door" to Mayfair, the second-most  expensive property on the board.
And that reflects real life !!

I don't know what sort of district Park Lane Liverpool is, but someone here knows and will surely tell us !

I've found Park Lane, St Thomas district. Park Lane runs almost parallel  to Albert and Wapping docks with a road called wapping in between them. It's a shame there is no house/premises number on the birth certificate. I think I will put up an 1841 census look-up request.

I can only think that Mary married George in France or Ireland then came to England, Liverpool being their first stop, then on to Burnley 1848 and Leicester 1851.

I'll keep looking! Wink

There's one near the Waterfront.

I'd rather live near the sea  in Liverpool than be able to afford to live on Londons Park Lane, any day!! Grin

I wish I had applied to the Liverpool Office!!!

Last time I visited they quoted a wait time of 13 weeks. Called at the GRO on my way home instead.

Hi andrewalston,

Now I am confused, perhaps I should stick to the devil I know!!!  Grin

I've usually worked out all the answers by the time the certificate turns up, to wait 13 weeks  Shocked  to confirm my assumptions would be just too much.  Roll Eyes

I think you'll find this site interesting for the area around Park Lane - which we of course consider to be far superior to the one in London which copied it's name from ours. Grin Grin Grin

Hi Mary,

Thanks for that. I have taken a look at the Toxteth site. It just misses Park Lane in map and street references, but I'm sure it will give me lots more information for the area in general. I'll bookmark it so I don't loose it. I've also found a great street map of Liverpool ca 1833 on Genmaps Lancashire, Liverpool.

I've just found another possible ancestor from Liverpool  Grin  on my Dad's side, but I haven't had enough time to look into them. yet!
