I've been pointed to this messageboard for possible connections of this surname to this county.  Here is everything I know of my irish ancestors.

Patrick LEDWICK was born in 1830 in Ireland.
• He lived in Heath Charnock, Lancashire between around 1870 and 1889 working as a labourer in the development of the reservoir system in Rivington, Lancashire. He possibly appears on the 1871 census as Patt LEDWIG working as a labourer in Rivington, Lancashire.

Patrick married Mary born in 1830 in Ireland and who died on 5 Mar 1877 in Heath Charnock, Lancashire at age 47.

Children from this marriage were:
•   Thomas LEDWICK (no further information).
Thomas married Catherine BERRY (no further information).
The child from this marriage was:
Mary LEDWICK born on 30 Aug 1879 in Heath Charnock, Lancashire. I am assuming that they married as the b/c shows a maiden name for Catherine.
Mary married Joseph BRINDLE on 27 Dec 1902 in Adlington Parish Church, Adlington, Lancashire. No details were entered on the m/c for her father.

•   Mary Ann LEDWICK was born in 1854 in Ireland. Mary married Nathan FAIRCLOUGH in Adlington, Lancashire.

•   Catherine LEDWICK was born in 1858 in Ireland. Catherine married John ATHERTON on 3 Jun 1895 in St Joseph's Church, Anderton.

•   Margaret LEDWICK  was born in 1860 in Ireland. She married Thomas H BRENNAN and Richard AINSCOUGH.

•   Patrick R LEDWICK was born in 1861 in Ireland. Patrick married Mary KENNEDY daughter of John KENNEDY in Bolton, Lancashire.

Surname variations for this family include LEDWITCH, LEDWICH, LEDWITH and LEDWIG.

The family probably didn't own any land, no UK census has given me anything other than Ireland as a place of birth.  I also can't trace the couple Thomas and Catherine LEDWICK at all.

The Ledwiths/Ledwichs  first appear in ireland in thee 12th Century, supposedly Normans Inbaders with  earlier roots in Saxony. They donated Money for the Construction of Tristernagh Abbey in Ballinacarragy Co. Westmeath.  There are quite a few families in Meath and Westmeath, including a well known poet called Francis Ledwith - there is a small Museum in his former home. There are about 144 Ledwiths on Familysearch.org,if you search Ireland all events. and they are  almost all from the Midlands. Its a relatively rare name, so you might find it useful to write to the Westmeath Examiner, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath outling what you have said here, and asking them to publish. My own Ledwith ancestor was from Multyfarnham. Best of luck in your search.
