Hi again vicki, On close reading of the above document, there is no doubt it is your family as there is a letter in the file from L. Ager -Lucy-inquiring about Oswald's wounds.( she must have written as 'older sister' and it shows, as you thought, she is not married) It comes from an address in Strathfield. Another letter in the file is from Jane and the address is Cornwall Park Grafton. I found the whole document fascinating and quite moving. Such a sad little note she wrote to the commanding officer. Think so, Aunt Pat will be getting a lot of questions to-night, the family has lost touch with a lot of them this is why I am trying to get this reunion going before all is lost I have a family photo of the Ager in the last 1800

Hi Vicki Re: George AGER in New Zealand - This may be a goose chase but I guess with nothing else to go on, you could at least try to eliminate....... http://archway.archives.govt.nz/CallSimpleSearch.do
The NZ site Archway has this record of Probate: Title: AGER George - Edgecumbe ex Nugget Point - Lighthouse Keeper Date Range:1952 1952 Last Dept Responsible:High Court Auckland, Department of Justice Akld
The record is kept in a place I used to work just down the road from, but I moved 2 yrs ago to other end of island otherwise I'd go have a squizz for you). But you can email the office and see how you, not being in NZ, might retrieve the information. Quote the references on the webpage.
Now, geographic: Auckland is near top of North Island, NZ. Edgecumbe is in the Bay Of Plenty, Whakatane District in the Central Nth Island. Nugget Point is, though - at the far end of the South Island in the Caitlins of Otago Province.
George AGER died in Edgecumbe August 1952: http://www.angelfire.com/ar/arrolfamily/Whakatane1.txt Funeral Record: AGER George Ref: 1342 Date:10-08-1952 He's the only AGER on that list
For the price of a Popsicle you can supposedly snail mail for more info to an address given on that page, in Cambridge in Waikato district Central North Island - but I don't know how old that info is.....I can't find any other reference or a phone number. You could instead try emailing the Whakatane museum: http://www.whakatanemuseum.org.nz/research.htm
Give them the date above etc (which I presume is a Funeral date and see if you might wangle a lookup in their newspaper collections of the area that would include Edgecumbe - or they might know who Ridgeway is.
In case the Nugget Point lighthouse Keeperwas your George AGER, this might be an interesting tidbit: http://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/publications/lighthouses/nuggetpoint.pdf
Maybe a kiwi chatter with more local knowledge can extend this a bit for you.
Good Luck AMBLY

Hi Vicki Do you mean, That is the George you were after? Great stuff!
I have just made a call to the Whakatane District Council - it's abt 6 hrs drive from me - they, unlike many local councils here do not have a Cemetery Database Online, but when I called they said they do have one - unfortunately the lady Database keeper is out at lunch, so I'll call back and see if I can't get her to look him up on the database - it may have some info on it. X all digits meantime!!
Cheers AMBLY.

Hi Vicki Seems like George may have worked at more than one lighthouse. Here is a site with a reference to an Assistant Keeper named AGER: http://www.lighthousedepot.com/database/uniquelighthouse.cfm?value=1169 Keepers: ? Simmonds (c. 1922), ? Ager (assistant, c. 1920s), Hugh Jamieson (1931-1935), Tom Clark (c. late 1950s) This is at Gisborne which places George in the Bay of Plenty region, not to far from where he died.
George AGER died aged 65, as per previous message : He is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Block 1, Plot 14. There is also a John Henry AGER who died 2004 aged 89 - he is recorded in the Memorial Garden, Nr 108. For these, we have the lovely Dorothy, keeper of the Cemetery List for the Whakatane District Council, to thank.
Hold all engines - better to come......... A.

Hi Vicki
I've made contact with a lovely lady here in NZ; George was her Grandad (and George's wife was named Lillian).
I'm going to PM you with some details and to get your email address to enable contact (don't put email address on the public site, as the moderators will delete them for security reasons.)
