Hello,
I have received a copy of my Grandparent's wedding certificate 20th October, 1922 which states that my grandmother resided at Bremners Land, Duntocher. My mother's birth certificate also lists this address. For the past few days I have been trying to find out where Bremners Land is but to no avail. Hoping someone with local knowledge will be able to help me.
Many thanks Helen from Brisbane, Australia

Hello, many thanks for your input. It's really frustrating when you cannot locate an address. My elderly mother thought she was born on a farm? I do know that my grandfather was a miner later on in Baillieston. I will follow up on your info regarding the row of cottages. Maybe it will reveal something. Appreciate your help. Bye Helen

when I was growing up just a long the road from the cottages there was a farm so it could have been part of the land I think the farm belonged to a family called Steel. My aunt used to stay in the prefabrication houses which were built behind the farm hope this is of help

Hi Helen,
I noticed that you said your grandfather was a miner in Baillieston.
I have MI's for both Crosshill/Baillieston Old Parish and St. John's Churches in Baillieston so if you think any of your ancestors might be buried in either of them, get back to me and I'll have a wee look.

You might also find that they were tenement buildings and were named after either the person who built them or the person who owned them.

There's alot of 'lands' in duntocher, smiths land, munns land and so on. The whole area was farming, and it really meant they lived on the farmers land. T he majority of the houses in duntocher are not that old, but most areas/houses are named after historical things in the area, (the old mill is actually a car garage etc) it's amazingly unlikely the houses or even the area your family were in at the time are still there in anything like the same form.
There is bremmners cottages, and there was a bremmners department store (in the old fashioned sence of the word). I beleive there is still one at milport but not sure if that'll help you trace family!
