(also posted on Northumberland)
On the 1851 census Ann Lee Prudhoe, widow, has 2 sons

Both their birth certs are registered by their mother and no fathers name is given.

There is the following Marriage entry in St Andrew's PC, Newcastle 30/8/1835
William Prudhoe of this parish
Ann Lee of this parish by banns
both marked
witness George Liddle - marked
Elizabeth Thompson - marked

William's MC gives William Lee Prudhoe as his father
John's MC gives Robert Lee Prudhoe as his father

Marriage entry in PR St Mary's Church, Gateshead 10/2/1867 -
John Lee Prudhoe, 21, Batchelor, Glassmaker
son of Robert Lee Prudhoe, Glassmaker, 20 Hopper St
Hannah Wilson, 19, Spinster, John Wilson, Blacksmith, 11 Leonard's Court
He signed, she marked

Where do I go from here?
Anyone got access to bastardy records?

Hi

I can take a look at the 1841 Census.

Can you please let me have the references for the 1851 Census and 1861 Census that you've mentioned.

Regards

Census 1851 for Winlaton, ( Piece 2403 Folio 183 Page 26) shows widow Ann Prudhoe with 5 yr old John and 3 yr old William.

Full reference for 1861 not in my record Huh? (despite notes in his PAF entry, perhaps its a typo for 1881 - reference below)
and I never found him in the '71

he married on 21 Nov 1874, at St Mary's Church, Leeds (I have cert - details as previous)

in 1881 William Prudhoe is shown as born Blaydon age 32 (ie 1849)
at 7 Clark St, Hunslett with his wife and 4 children (eldest age 6)
and I have his BC at Winlaton, Blaydon, Durham, England, 21 Sept 1848
reg by his mother with no father given - as previously indicated

Thanks Michael

I couldn't wait and found them.  I've put a response on the Durham board and I'll now leave this one alone!
