Thanks for that Nicky,
That does look like him... it a bit early in the morning here, but i wondered if maybe Diana was a Plumpton it 1841, or is that a long shot, why did her son have a different name then... am i going to wake up in a min and think that was a silly question....
i Googled "Blue Coat Charity School" found some interesting info on that, thought it may have been a school for poor or naughty children..
Is Tudge a common names back then....
once the dau Diana / dinah married they changed there names like it was going out to of fashion, might look back it that and see if there is any clues.
Thank you so much , every bit helps..
best wishes Ann

Hi All
I too am looking into the Plumpton family tree and specifically at Thomas Plumpton, so Biko this message may be quite relevant to you.
Thomas Plumpton is my GG Grandad, my Grandad (still very much alive and well!) remembers him well and his Grandma Jemima (nee Jackson) My Grandad lived with them whilst he was growing up, and remembers clearly having to help carry Jemima out of the air raid shelter when she passed away during a bombing raid in Birmingham. He had her name added to the air raid memorial in Birmingham which is at the back of the Bull Ring. I have a photo of Jemima, with her daughter; my G Grandma and my Grandad.
I have recently been to the Central Library in Birmingham, where they hold records of the Blue Coat School. The research that I did on the school suggested that it was for children from poor backgrounds who had shown some form of potential. The child was normally sponsored by someone and would probably go into an apprenticeship. I found Joseph's records, which show he entered the school on the 18.06.1838 and was signed in by (and her signature is actually there) Diana Plumpton. He was sponsored by someone called George Calley Lingham ( we think a button maker in Birmingham)
On the marriage certificate for Joseph and Ann it shows that his father is a silk weaver, and I think that the two Christenings are correct, he was Christened in Birmingham and the document is with his school records. That day around 20 other children of a similar age were Christened, we think it is to do with the school and perhaps something compulsory.
Also I have looked at the census from 1851 and it could be TUDGE or it may be JUDGE? I also found a death of a Dina JUDGE on the BMD dated 1878, Dina was aged 79 at the time? This adds up with the DOB. Don't know whether this might this be the Tudge / Judge link?
I'm hoping to go the the London Metropolitan Archives in the coming weeks but it would be great to hear any more news!
Regards
Lyns
