SUTHERLAND DEATHS
« on: Sunday 10 October 04 19:41 UTC (UK) »

TRYING TO FIND THE DEATHS OF GREAT GRANDPARENTS, ROBERT & MARY SUTHERLAND BOTH BORN IN CAITHNESS. ROBERT BORN 1861 & MARY 1858. ROBERT WAS ALIVE IN 1913 BUT DEAD ON DAUGHTERS MARRIAGE CERT IN JUNE 1915, I CANNOT FIND IT REGISTERED ANYWHERE OR MARY'S DEATH. THE DAUGHTER WAS MARRIED IN TAIN. IF ANYONE IS GOING TO THE ARCHIVES OR WHEREVER THE RECORDS ARE KEPT I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF THEY COULD HAVE A LOOK FOR ME.

Hiya Moira,

I don't know if you have tried this website:

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Unfortunately it isn't free  Sad but it is much cheaper than getting english/welsh records.

It has all Death registry from 1855 to 1954 as well as births (1855-1904)  and marriages (1855 - 1928).

With the scottish records it is worth the price (£1.20, £1 for image 20p for search results) and if the informant knew the information it should give you the parents names of the deceased.

I hope this helps and sorry I don't know how to get the info for free.

Good luck,
Pam

Hi pam, yes i have tried scotlands people, it cost me a small fortune, over £100, i got all my mums family from it so it was worth it and cheaper than travelling by train to visit archives. I narrowed robert down to death 1914 as he was alive in 1913 when my mums mum got married ,but on another daughters cert he was dead in 1915, but there is still no trace of his death or his wifes. I think they lived in Tain, they were crofters. thanks for the info.

Hi Moira,

Sometimes they just won't be found!

I have my 2xgreat grandfather who died about 1920 in Annan (I think) - no registration, no grave - no nothing!  He is a right royal pain!

Hope you have better luck than me!

Hi,
I am scotlandspeoples biggest fan.
I bet you anything that the Sutherlands you are looking for, died befor 1913. I have thousands of certificates and
have found in the highlands more than elsewhere, they forgot to say if their parents were deceased or not.
I have found the husbands death, and the informant has said he (the deceased) was married to so and so,
where they usually say widower of such and such.
So I suggest you go for the wife first, and remember they are crossreferenced with maiden name.So you can search both names and match the ref no.
Ehat was  mary's maiden name?

thanks alot, but the problem is solved now thanks to a long lost relative, robert died 1945 & mary died 1943, we have an idea why he was put as deceased on his daughters marriage cert in 1915, but that is another story.

thanks for taking the time to reply
