Industry in Stotfold, mainly brickmakers
« on: Thursday 16 March 06 06:13 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for information regarding the brick making industry in Stotfold in the mid to late 1800's.  James Lambert owned a brick works at least from the 1850's until just before his death in 1885.  Was brickmaking a major industry for the area.

Bert Hyde wrote a book titled "Brickmaking in Stotfold". I think Stotfold library may be able to help you with some details.

Thanks Susan,
I will try that.  They have the book in the library and as I cant take it out I wonder if there is anyone who could take the book out and look up James Lambert and his sons James Halls Lambert and Alfred Lambert and any other Lambert's for that matter.  They were brickmakers in Stotfold in the 1851 census and were there in the Biggleswade area until the late 1890's.
Thanks.
