My great great great grandad, George Goldsmith was station master at Rushton Spencer railway station , until at least 1881, possibly fom 1840's, has anyone got any info on him or the station please.

If you go to www.historicaldirectories.org and first search for GOLDSMITH George one of the directories identified will be W. White. History of Staffordshire 1851. By going to this directory and hitting the "hit" button one will be shown the following entry, Ruston Spencer. GOLDSMITH George. Stationmaster then with a note below that states Railway. Trains 4 times a day each way.
If you then search for Ruston Spencer there are several directories that will describe the area for you.
The site now has 299 directories for on-line reference at zero cost except your time and effort.

I was pleased the information was of help. When I posted the comment in February 2004 there was 299 directories available "on-line". Today is the 19th September and there are now 620.
