Hello Fisherman
My name is Chris Parsons and I believe I am a direct descendant from the Sockett family in Ketley Shropshire. My grandfather was Enoch Sockett who was born in Ketely in the mid 1800's. He was great friends with the Holland family also from Ketley. They went to Newport South Wales at the turn of the century where they set up a grocer's shop. My late mother Annie Sockett was born in Rogerstone Newport in 1911 and had brothers Charles, William and Joe and a sister Nellie. Nellie is still alive at the age of 90!
May I ask what relation you are?
Please reply.

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late reply.

My Sockett line moved to Herefordshire from Shropshire.

To complicate things my grandmother Hannah Sockett,  who I believe is the same line as you,  married her cousin Joseph Christopher Sockett.  So I am descended from two lines of the Sockett family.

I have sent you a pm

Hi Chris (Fisherman)
Thanks for your response. Does this mean that your Grandmother Hannah Sockett was the sister Of Enoch Sockett of Ketley? If so we are distant relations. Perhaps you would let me know.

Hi Chris,

My Grandmother Hannah had a brother Enoch Edward b Ketley c1875.
Enoch married Hannah Banfield (b 1876 Trvethin Mon.)
The only child I have of this marriage is Enoch Edward 1907-1909.
From your earlier reply I see there were more.

If this Enoch was your grandfather it makes us second cousins

Regards

Hi Chris or should I say 2nd Cousin!!!

Your details confirm that we are indeed related. To bring you up to date re the Sockette line. Enoch and Hannah had five children. My mother Annie Gwendolyn 1911 - 1998, Charles who died in 1999, William who died in 1996,  Joseph who died c 1973 and Nellie born XXXX- and is still alive. My mother married Reg Parsons a railway worker in 1938.
I have a son XXXX .  I have a brother XXXX is also your second cousin(!!!!!)
Charles Sockett married XXXX and had two children
William and Joseph Sockett lived together in a flat in Newport and never married.  Nellie married XXXX, whom she nursed, having been shot down over Germany in the war.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Chris

Hi Fisherman and llandaff,

Apologies for replying to this thread so late, but I've only just discovered this post! I'm the great grandson of Ellen Maria Sockett [1885-1955], who was the daughter of John and Ruth (Morris) Sockett. John [1841-?] was the son of Enoch [1802-?] and Mary (maiden name unknown) Sockett. The Enoch Edward Sockett mentioned above (who married Hannah Banfield) was John's son. I'd love further information if at all possible - If either of you read this could you please let me know? Thanks!

All the best,
Adam

PS: I've just read the three posts before PM'ing rule, so I'm desperately trying to find posts to reply to so I can be contacted directly, if needed!
