I am trying to get information about my greatgrand parents :John McBride, (who died when my Gran was young before she was 14yrs old)and possibly Cathrine McBride, who died around 1965-68 who lived in Dunoon, I visited the grave yard and found their grave, but would like to know more about them and any family. My Gran was called Cathrine McBride, she was born in 1903 and she had a brother called John who was born in 1901 and died in 1980, he was married to Mary Caldwell, who died in 1985, I think they had a daughter called Cathrine. I think my Gran also had a brother called Charles or Charlie who I believe drowned, she also had sisters maybe Susan and Helen, I believe my Greatgrand parents had a laundry in Dunoon. My Gran went into service when she was about 13-14 yrs old and never went back to Dunoon (probably in the 1910-1920s). My Gran wanted me to take her to Dunoon to "find her family", but she was never well enough to go, so I went my self and although I think I found the graves without my Gran I couldnot find out any more, my Gran died but I am still very intrested in finding her family for her. Can any one help? I am planning a trip to Dunoon but don't know who or what to do once I get there any ideas on where to start?.
thankyou Thrall for your advice I hope I have added enough information to enable some one out there to help me, i could not work out how to reply to your message so I thought I would add it here.

Hi Neryse and welcome to RootsChat. Probably the best way to get help is to give all the ready and willing people on this site all the info you have on your grandmother and her family viz. dates and places. My family comes from near Dunoon and its certainly an attractive place.
If you look for your grandmotherīs or her motherīs death on ScotlandsPeople http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ ,then that will give you details of their parents etc.
From then on you can work back using the IGI http://www.familysearch.org/ which is free and again, SP with all its BMDs, censuses and wills. You may find it helpful to use the site at TalkingScot http://www.talkingscot.com/
Good luck and do persevere - it takes a little while to get into the searching, but its well worth it!
Regards,
Thrall

hi, I have now got John Mcbrides parents names they were Charles and Susan (nee Boyle) and my great grandmother was Kate Hughes, her parents were Patrick and Mary, so far I cannot get any more information about them I got this information from John and katies marriage they did get married in Dunoon as you sugested, they were married in 1898. I have also found out that my gran had a younger sister dob 1906 called Mary Allan Mcbride and a brother called Charles dob 1909 who died in 1925 aged 16, but I cannot make out cause of death, I know that my grans brother John married mary Caldwell in 1923 and that he died in 1998, I am still looking for information on Susan and Mary.

hi, John and Kate were married on 05/02/1898 it has the following information:
Charles McBride was alive he was an engineman,Susan McBride was dead,it has her as MRS Boyle.
Kate's parents were Patrick carpenter but i cant read her mothers maiden name
the witness were j Mitchell and again i cant make out the initial but the 2nd witness was also Mitchell so i dont know if they were relatives.
the home address of john Dalfauld brae and Kate's address I cant make out, something place, Dunoon.
I have also found the following statutory deaths listing for Susan, Susan Leonard (widow of William Leonard, dock laborer. Susan died 18/5/1946 aged 47. it lists the informant as William Leonard (son) and the address of Susan and her son was 339 Calder street Glasgow. it also names her parents.

hello I am grand daughter of John and Mary McBride of Dunoon and would be interested to hear from you as we have the same great grandparents My mother Catherine died last year but has a cousin still alive who is daughter of Susan a sister of my grandfather. I am assuming your grandmother would have been Katie? I visit Dunoon regularly to tend the graves something I promised my grandmother Mary Caldwell (McBride) and I may be able to help a little bit with your search. Look forward to hearing from you!
