I just spring-cleaned my PM inbox - took out several hundred messages  and feel very virtuous now. 
BUT
Apparently I now have -3 messages (as in minus 3) - how did I manage that 
Grateful for an explanation, though I won't lose sleep over it!

p.s. New msg just arrived: I now have minus 2 !!

You had several 100s  Well mine goes funny when the 90+ mark is reached so I have to go in and Spring Clean regularly.

No, nothing to do with Moderating - just me nattering to anyone who will listen, LOL!
After shutting down last night & rebooting this morning, I still have 3 fewer messages indicated than are actually in the "Inbox".
One of life's imponderables then, I suppose?

Now you mention it, the PMs do behave strangely - like if you read them as a 'Reply to' message and don't go into the Inbox, you still get them showing as new messages, even though they're not
