I'm interested in all LANSDELLs in Sussex - could you perhaps let me have entries from your Monumental Inscription database, if there are any?

I've sent you another E-mail, Chris.
Ruth, about a year ago I took an interest in James Lansdell and Martha Breeds because I have been researching my Breeds line in Tenterden Kent and I found Lansdells there too. Since reading about your interest in this couple, I took time today and went to the IGI at LDS on-line. I have traced James Lansdell back to Lawrence Lansdell born in 1651 at Cranbrook, Kent.
This information was all submitted by a member of the LDS church but it does leave a very clear path for us to follow.....
I have found evidence that another descendant of Lawrence Lansdell was married to my 4X great uncle, William Breeds at Tenterden - their first child Emily Breeds was born at Tenterden in 1839.
So it appears the Lansdells and the Breeds may be connected twice. Hope to discuss this further by E-mail.

Lansdells - It has been a while since I looked at those notes, but I would be very interested in talking to Ruth. I don't know if you prefer that I keep to the Rootschat site with my comments, or could I also have Ruth's e-mail address?
Obviously you can chat to her via these boards or via the chat room, or by private message, or if Ruth wishes, you can echange e-mail addresses.
I have traced my line to a Daniel Breeds (b. 1776 at Tenterden) who married Sarah Friend at Brookland, Kent on august 1, 1797. From the Tenterden Parish registers I found that Daniel's mother was an unwed Mary Breads (spelling did vary from Breads to Breeds, but always with the "s").
Have you found any 'bastardy orders' within the parish chest for Tenterden - if there are any, they should be at Maidstone (County Record Office.)
I have tried to find the birth of our unwed Mary Breads in the Tenterden parish registers with no luck. It has been suggested that perhaps she was from another area, such as Rye.
Could be, but if she travelled to Tenterdon whilst in child, she would have been moved on to the next county by the poor law Cmmisioners - i.e. if the baby had been born in Tenterden, they would have been responsible by law for its upkeep; so the local constable would move girls in this condition into the next parish in the dead of night, more often than not by force.
There was a Mary Breads born in 1757, to Joseph Breads and Susannah Mansfield. You will see them on the top left hand quadrant of the tree that I sent to you. Mary is not on the tree but she does appear on the IGI as their first born daughter.
Its possible, but be very carefull about 'grasping at straws here'
By the way, I think Rootschat is a great idea!

No, I am not familiar with those orders - will have to see what is available to me through LDS as I am in Canada, but I thank you for suggesting it

Would this be the case if Mary were living with family, or perhaps with family of the father? She did have a second child born at Tenterden, and I found a subsequent marriage of Mary Breads to John Kennard, but don't have proof that it was the same Mary Breads, although it was highly likely since the marriage took place shortly after birth of second child.

I do agree with you about not grasping at straws, but there is a little more to the story which I will tell you by E-mail.

I am looking up Holleys from Hastings.
I am trying to find any info on Douglas (sometimes known as Dudley) Joseph Holley Married to Elizabeth Sturgess. No idea of marriage birth or death dates. I know they had a son called Dudley Joseph Basil Holley who married Edith Booker 03/12/1908.
Dudley and Edith had Dorothy, Dudley, Edward, Rosalie, Lillian, Violet, Ivy and Eileen. They were born between 1908 and 1918. I know Dudley died in France at the end of world war 1 and was buried out there.
I am trying to find the parents of Elizabeth Sturgess. Any info would be appreciated.
I am also looking in Brighton too, do you cover that area?

i'm researching the Holleys in st leonards on sea and hastings. Any info on Douglas (also known as Dudley) Joseph Holley and his wife Elizabeth Sturgess. Their son Dudley Joseph Basil Holley was married to Edith Booker. I don't know if they had any other children.
Dudley and Edith were married 03/12/1903 and had Dorothy Dudley Edward Rosalie Lillian Violet and twins Ivy and Eileen. They were all born between 1903 and 1918. Any info on the family would be appreciated.
Do you research in Brighton at all?

THOMAS and JANE CARTER who lived in the St.Anns District of Lewes. Is it likely that they might turn up in any of the three indexes that you have that cover 1865 onwards.
They were both alive in 1865 but both died when their youngest son, born in that year, was a 'young boy'.
I have looked on Free BMD but have yet to find a death entry for either of them.

Was at the ESRO today and found the following:-
Burial - Jan 1st 1805, Jane Carter aged 69 of St Annes. Lewes.
