Hi there, this is a long shot, but while visiting my mother in South Africa last month, I came across a photograph of a grave with a cross with writing on it. On the back of it there is a inscription that says: Nairobi War Cem, Plot 1, Grave 9. I think the name on the front is J Hudson. If this is the case it would be my fathers uncle's grave.
Is anyone on this website, based in Nairobi that could check for me? I am going to say that he died in the second world war but I could be wrong.
If anyone is able to help I would really appreciate it but if not, thanks anyway Sharleen

Hi Annie
You have made my day. Not only have you confirmed the name but you have also give me parents names to search for. I have been hitting major blocks with the parents of my grandfather who was also named Frederick William Hudson. His brother were Jim and Leonard, and I believe there may have been sisters. They were born, supposedly, in Sydney Australia but somehow made there way to SA, but this has been a real struggle to find.
May I please ask where you managed to find this info so that I may research it a bit more. I'd like to try and find out the history, and why he would have been there. I managed to find what appears to have been his photo album. Plenty of pics of him in army uniform, along with a wonderful picture of his brother with my father. That was special.
Thanks you are wonderful. Sharleen

I got it from the Debt of Honour Register from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission!
I'm trying to find the SA Military records - the place I usually look - the site is down - give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can come up with it !!
Can you post a photo of him in his uniform ? how cool is that? you've found a treasure trove !!

Thanks Annie & Anne this is really great stuff. ; I did have on File the information for Frederick W Hudson Jnr. I found that in all my mothers paperwork as well, but as you can see no parents listed. The Leslie Kenneth Hudson minor is my father.
If you are able to find a death notice for Janet Cairns Hudson (Aitken) that would be great just for the details but I do have a lot of information on her family as it is.
So I will go looking for Frederick W Hudson snr in the Auz archives and see what I can find. If you are able to locate a death notice for him that would really be really good because that may give parents names.
I had heard that Leonard was a half brother to Frederick but was not sure about James.
There was also rumors that there was a mine that collapsed many years ago and some of the brothers headed back to Auz in a hurry. Perhaps they were brothers of Frederick Snr, seeing that they were living in Rhodesia. All speculation though.
Are we able to access marriages in Rhodesia? It would be nice to find out what Eleanor's maiden name was.
Thanks so much for all your help, this family has been a major nightmare.
Once again you are stars Sharleen
