Thanks Mo

That is a great picture.

This was a interesting trip home and I managed to scan over 200 of my mom's picutres which I may never have seen.

I have attached the pic I found.  On the back it says:  Nairobi War Cem  Plot 1 (or I) Grave 9

This was a great find.

Hi Sharleen

Gee, Mo is right, JH is rather was a looker wasn't he  Grin
All I had extra for you was the link to the NSW BMD site - but I think you have that anyway?

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm

On it you will find what I believe is:
Frederick W HUDSON jnr's birth to Frederick W and Louisa A, those of his "missing" siblings, his parents marriage, his mother's death and his mother's birth.......how go you? I don't know if getting the marriage would give you the parents names of FW snr?

I would perhaps contact the lady who posted the 2 deaths posted earlier and ask if she has also has death notice on her files  for FW senior btw Jun 1926 and Dec 1944, and for FW jnr's wife Janet.

And a link:
http://www.national.archives.gov.za/
[But Maybe this is the site that wasn;t working for Annie....it's search facility is down]

Re: Eleanor's birth - one clue is she was born in Essex, England and about 1865/66 according to her age at death. FREEDBM has the following single result for a search of an Eleanor Beatrice between 1863 and 1868, may be a bit late and FREEBDM is incomplete: Then again, the informant at her death did not know her parents names and maybe he did not have her right age either?

Registered June Quarter 1868:
COWDERY  Eleanor Beatrice    W. Ham  Ref: 4a 64

Best of luck!
Anne/AMBLY

PS: Modify - adding this as follows, Sharleen, as seems you didn't find it as I thought on the above website -  hope it helps!
The children of Frederick W HUDSON  and Louisa A BEST:
HUDSON , LOUIE born1887  Ashfield Ref 5856/1887 , died 1887 Ashfield Ref: 2664/1887
HUDSON JENNIE born Ashfield Ref: 4704/1891
HUDSON DOROTHY G born 1893 Ashfield Ref: 4566/1893 , believe married Garnet Roy DETTMAN 1917 and died 1933 and at least 2 children?  - see post further down]
HUDSON MARJORIE L born 1895 Redfern Ref 26353/1895, died 1895 Redfern ref: 10062/1895

Redfern is also part of Sydney.

Mother Louisa A HUDSON died 1895 Redfern Ref: 10029/1895 daughter of WILLIAM and UNKNOWN in REDFERN (and see more further down on her).
Looks to me as if Louisa died in Childbirth or as a result of.

A.

You are right he was the better looking of the brothers.  I remember many years ago going through the photo's and there were lots of those olden day pics where the persons photo was on the front of the postcard.  Well Jim received a lot from the ladies.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I did email the person regarding the death notices.  She has supplied me with a lot of the families marriage certificates.  Unfortunately they did not show the parents names.

Perhaps I should look for a death certificate for Louisa A Hudson and see what I come up with.  I did follow that link but could not tie the brothers in.  Given that they had a different mother, it explains things a bit better.

Thanks for the suggestions

Hi Sharleen

Does the name DETTMANN come up at all, in any of the documents/photo's you've gathered? I ask because:

NSW BMDs
Death in Sydney, 1933 of a Dorothy G DETTMANN, her parents: Frederick W and Louisa A.
Marriage 1917 of a Dorothy G HUDSON to a Garnet R DETTMANN in Mosman, NSW

in NAA:
WW1 record for a Garnet Roy  DETTMANN
WW2 record of a John Frederick DETTMANN born Longueville NSW, Next of Kin: Audrey DETTMANN.
WW2 record of an Elizabeth Beryl DETTMAN born 1920 Longueville NSW, Next of Kin: Garnet R DETTMANN

thinking, if  Frederick & Louisa are Frederick jnr.s parents, then Dorothy whose birth is there on the BMD's was one of the sisters you'd heard tale of  and maybe tracking her may lead to something on Fred Snr.....

This may be cart before horse, but just thought I'd chuck the name into the pot, as it's rather distinctive!

Cheers

Louisa Alberta BEST b. 27 May 1860, d. 10 August 1895

Maybe just maybe, the webmaster has something, anything, more on Louisa's husband.......like the full details off the marriage record?

Re: Nairobi War Cemetery
« Reply #27 on: Thursday 13 April 06 20:25 UTC (UK) »

I see from the post Annie place that Louisa died on 10 August 1895.

On the New South Wales BMD site I found the following:

Marriage of Frederick William Hudson and Louisa A Best Central Cumberland 1884

Children:
Hudson: Frederick W  born 1886 Ashfield
Hudson:  Louie  born 1887
Hudson: Jennie born 1891
Hudson: Dorothy G born 1893
Hudson:  Marjorie L born 1895.

It is then possible that she died in childbirth.

Obviously a good idea would be to see if I cannot get access to the marriage certificate of Frederick W and Eleanor, to get an idea of which year they got married.

Eleanor does not mention any other children aside from her two sons, James & Leonard, and the fact that she is living in the home of her stepson Frederick W on south coast junction.  Which I may add is where my fathers older brother were listed as living when they were born.  So my question then is what happened to the 4 other children.   They would have been in their thirties I would imagine (not using a calculator).

The only parents I have found for a Frederick W Hudson were Robert and Jane Hudson district Choppendale.  That doesn't necessarily mean that this is the same one.

The records that I now have is the Death Certificate of Frederick William Hudson , birthplace Sydney, Nationality British.  Parents Deceased.  lodged by his spouse Janet Hudson.

I have a duplicate copy of Frederick Williams marriage certificate dated Sept 3 1913 in Durban.  Witnesses were JG Aitken (Janet's brother) and ?   No names of parents.

I have a notice in the National Archives of South Africa (NASA) Ref: 3087/1918   starting 1918 ending 1931 for an Edward Leonard Hudson (S/s Dora Lilian, born Griff).  This could be a divorce notice if it is the same Edward as I remember him still being alive in the 1980's

That is pretty much everything I have except now the information you have given me.

Thanks

Hi Sharleen

If you go back over this topic, there are lots   of clues as to what happened to the other 4 children - only the 2 girls  apparently survived childhood; 1 appears to stay in AUstralia and marry,  and that leaves just one for whom there is nothing further. I have modified an earlier message of mine to add BDM information.

I have also given you the website of a living researcher with Louisa A HUDSON nee BEST in his tree. He may have more unpublished data to share with you - he may even know what happened to her descendants/children - including the one who very likely became your ancestor.

And here is another living and current researcher with Louisa in his tree (my last offering, Google is melting)
