Anyone who is interested in life in Cornwall  should get a copy of A L Rowse 'A Cornish Childhood'. I think its a lovely book, about life in a mining community, written by a famous Cornish historian. Truro Books on- Line have paperback copies for  around £8.

Thanks for the info. I've recently found out my great great grandparents (Trythal/Trithal and Martin) came from copper mining families in Cornwall. Will send off for the book!

Much of what he writes about is located in St Austell which is some way from the copper mining distict but it gives a very personal view of what life was like in the early 20th C and I dont suppose that varied much across the county.
A.L Rowse  wrote a number of other books about Cornwall and was a Elizabethan expert.
