Hi there. I had this in the wrong place, had in the liverpool site,so i now hope i am in the right place and some one may be able to help me.
I think my family- john WALMSLEY and his brother William WALMSLEY - went to NSW Australia on the Marco Polo 23 may 1853. John stayied, but william must have come back as he married in Liverpool in 1855, and left a month later for Australia...
There is lots of passenger list going into Australia, but what about coming [/[b]b]back into Liverpool so i can check to see if william did go with his brother,. 1853/54
Their father died in New Foundland in 1847, he had a number of ships in his seal fishery, and everything was sold and was left to the sons, so they would have had the money to go backwards and forwards. William travelled first class with his new wife in 1855.
Many thanks ' Ann

BT (board of trade) records start much later for ships coming back in (and are unfortunately unindexed as well, finding records coming back into the UK is very difficult).
If they were fairly well off, the local newspaper records might mention something about it? I've seen occasional records in The Times, for example, which mention passengers coming/going to India, although the info given is usually quite sparse, like 'Mrs Smith and her daughters, left for Bombay', or 'Mr J. Brown, merchant' Can't see anything about the Walmsley's in The Times but I might have missed something in the swarm of hits for Sir J. Walmsley!
