Who do you think you are?

Sorry for all you guys who can't get BBC 2 but this looks like it will be a really good series.

The first one is Bill Oddie who finds he had a sister who died - so it'll be emotionally charged.

It starts next Tuesday 9pm BBC2.  I'm sure we'll all be scrutinising it.

Pam.  Thanks for the reminder.  I had heard about the series but had forgotten.  I'll set my video if I can persuade my daughter to do it for me!

Apparently, there is a sister series running on BBC3 (on sky etc) at the same which covers 'ordinary' peoples 'amazing' discoveries about their family trees....

I've seen the trailers and am really looking forward to it.  Just hope Heartbeat or some other nauseous programme Mum watches, isn't on at the same time.  Thank goodness for this computer, otherwise I would definitely chuck myself off the balcony if I hear the Neighbours theme tune once more .... sorry Darcy.....

WDYTYA starts this Tuesday at 9pm on BBC2, who will be watching it and what do you think you may learn from it?

Also I believe there is another programme on BBC4 but following the lives of Joe Public as they search for there family tree.

I'll be watching!! From what I've read about the program the celebrities, Lesley Garrett for example, have actually been researching their tree themselves. I hope that this is true and the BBC haven't been doing it for them Tongue

I only saw this advertised today. I saw Bill Oddie, didn't know it was all different celebs.

I will be taping it to watch in peace and quiet when the kids at school Grin
Like you, i do hope they've not "cheated" and got someone to do it for them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one on this board with underlying suspisions (I hope I spelled that correctly!!). Yes, there any several other celebrities featured in different episodes. I too saw Bill in my TV guide, but I also read that Lesley Garrett and Amanda Redman, amongst others, will be having a go.

I reckon somebody else has done it for them ... but we'll see.  Jeremy Clarkson is another who is on there.

Until searching for this programme I did not realise te BBC had a family history section on their website (did it exist before?).

There is some pretty good stuff on there for beginners:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/trail/familyhistory/

And about "Your Region":
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/your_history/your_region/

Well worth exploring if you haven't already done so.

The BBC did have a Family History section before .... but not that one ..... its had a considerable revamp and expansion although I wouldn't be cynical enough to say it was to push the show  Tongue

I would be very surprised if Lesley Garrett does her own, although it's possible. Should be interesting if she does, as she comes from a good Yorkshire family . . .

True Mrs Lizzy, that would be good. However, after watching the first show featuring Bill Oddie they did reveal that they had a 'genealogy expert' (if there is such a thing) which helped Bill along the way although, Bill did do allot of work too. He also had the help from a distant-ish cousin who had researched the Oddie family back to about 1710 in a small Lancashire village.

It was quite a good show.

Well we've just had the 1st show.  I thought it was good.  I know he had a team of researchers but it didn't make anything look easier than it is.

It was very emotional.

What did you guys think?
