I've only been doing my tree for 2 years now but there have been periods when the brickwalls get so high, I think I'm giving up but then I come on RC and someone says something that sets me off again!!!!
I have changed tack a bit lately, I've been fleshing out (I think that is the right expression) some of my ancestors, finding out about the local history of where they lived and what they did etc and they makes them really come alive as people not just names on a tree.
So don't give up. Look at it from a different perspective.

I move on to a different line for a while. My FH research is cyclical - round and round it goes, building up a bit here and a bit there. Some walls stay for longer though.
You should try Welsh patronymics - now John ap (son of) Robert - which Robert  Robert ap John or Robert ap Richard, etc...................

So in 1901, he might have either been in school still or have been an apprentice.
Who were his parents or have you already mentioned them - just trying to get some facts before I cast some of my magic

My granddad was born in a workhosue and stayed there until he was 12 ish - then was apprenticed to a butcher - could be the same with yours.

of Onley's in UK, mainly down London way, but over here there's very few of us. Some down in Melbourne and at least one family over in Perth, and three family's in Queensland. But you're right, it would be funny if he was related.
